Good morning,
The 2012 Ohio Summer Reading Program Evaluation report has been
completed and is posted here for viewing and download:
http://www.webjunction.org/documents/ohio/Ohio_SRP_Evaluation_2012.html
Ohio's public libraries report a total of 442,173 people registered for
SRP across the state in 2012, and SRP-related event & program attendance
of 618,616! In addition to the traditional children's summer reading
program/club, a growing number of libraries are offering adult and teen
summer reading programs. 90% of respondents offered a teen SRP in 2012,
and 70% offered an adult SRP. Statewide, more teens registered for SRP
in 2012 than in 2011, but fewer children and adults registered.
However, program attendance (storytimes, performers, special events,
etc.) increased by 22% over 2011. Overall participation in library
summer programs seems to be on the rise.
Libraries large and small offer summer reading programs, and participate
in the evaluation. One library registered 6 children for SRP, and
another registered 59,233, but all are providing an important (and fun)
service, keeping their communities engaged with reading and library
activities over the summer.
Thank you for your hard work in planning and producing your summer
reading programs. It's a huge effort, and all involved library staff
deserve praise.
Sincerely,
Janet
