Take Five! An Ohio Youth Services Day of Dialogue on Challenges,
Solutions, and Emerging Best Practices
<http://library.ohio.gov/youth-services/take5>

Wednesday, May 16, 10:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. at the Columbus Museum of Art
<http://www.columbusmuseum.org/>

FREE registration!

Take Five! is a day of structured conversation for teen and youth
services librarians, non-degreed youth services library workers, school
librarians, museum educators, arts leaders, and graduate students. Our
collaborative, in-person environment will promote creative approaches as
we discuss new ideas in teen services, grassroots advocacy, youth
empowerment, 21st century learning, STEM, collaboration,
support-building, and the user experience in informal learning
environments. Participants will be challenged and encouraged to "Take
Five". By taking just five hours to engage in this process (plus a
bonus hour for lunch!), you will take away at least five new contacts,
five new ideas, and five action steps.

Agenda:

Will include several brief presentations on topics including the user
experience, "Hierarchy of Teen Services" (based on Maslow's Hierarchy),
and self-advocacy, along with several sessions of small-group discussion
and reporting back on these and additional topics. Participants will
help to set the specific agenda in advance of the event. Attendees may
explore the Columbus Museum of Art <http://www.columbusmuseum.org/>
during the lunch break and after the Take Five! event. An optional tour
of the Columbus Metropolitan Library <http://www.columbuslibrary.org/>
(a 6-minute walk from the Museum) is also available to attendees after
the event.

Educational Outcomes:

* Participants will discuss and reflect on issues that affect
their libraries/schools/institutions, young users, and communities.

* Participants will be exposed to other
libraries'/schools'/institutions' innovations, challenges, and solutions
in serving young people.

* Participants will expand their network of youth services
experts across the state and across library sizes and types (public,
school, academic) and related institutions (museums, arts education
organizations) for support, resources, advice, and encouragement.

* Participants will take away advocacy strategies, and ideas to
enhance their programs/services.
