Below are all the responses for my request for information on any digital magazine/newspaper services that anyone has used or looked at. Specifically, only two services were found:
Zinio
Press Display

re: Digital Magazine and Newspaper Subscription
Hi Sara,
We recently added Zinio through Debbie MacDonald at Recorded Books.
Set up, etc fees depend upon your yearly circulation. Ours are a few thousand dollars.
The subscription costs for each magazine are reasonably priced, too, $10-20 for most.
Staff loves the service, word is just getting out to the community and we are ready for the onslaught, much as ebooks hit us.
Service is relatively easy to use, just need to remember to go to the library's zinio web address, not zinio.com, and sign in twice.
We also require a library card to be entered.
Once the account is set up and magazines chosen, you can use tablets and other digital devices to access, except Nooks.
Can read the magazine on line or download.
I've been using for about 6 weeks and am ecstatic as are the other librarians here.
Service can be accessed anywhere there is an Internet connection.
Unfortunately newspaper are not offered.
Please let me know if you have any other questions.
Best wishes,
Mike

Digital magazines
Hi Sara
We are using Zinio and it has been up since late August. We currently have 78 titles (I attached a list with prices) and so far it is going pretty well. There have been some glitches since we were one of the first libraries to start but overall it's been great. 568 patrons have signed up so far and they have checked out 5000 magazines. I attached a copy of our circ statistics so far.
Like Overdrive you pay a platform fee. Recorded books bases it on circulation numbers I think. The cost of the magazines at least for now is really reasonable and comparable to what you'd pay for a print subscription.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

RE: [OPLINLIST] Digital Magazine and Newspaper Subscription Serviceinformation request
The Columbiana Library chose Zinio Magazines through Recorded Books. We
have received our confirmation and our plans are to be going live in the
next couple of days. We may not make a public announcement for a few days.
We set a budget of $1500 for the magazines and were able to select 72 titles
for just under that amount. The access fee changes with the circulation
size of your library so our fee would be much smaller than yours.
The magazines are always available either on the computer or mobile device.
They are not available on the Nook at this time.
Our Recorded Books representative handled our account. If you don't have a
representative, our contact person is Debbie McDonald; cell: 614-354-4692;
email: dmcdonald at recordedbooks.com
Good Luck.

Hi Sara:
I haven't used Press Display for a couple of years (2007/2009) but when
I did, I loved it. It is really easy to use, has a huge variety of
newspapers and had text-to-speech and translate functions that made it
very useful for ESL or individuals who are trying to learn a foreign
language.
Just my two cents.

Sara,
Response to Zinio at Salem has been excellent (over 1,000 checkouts in the first month @ our library). We have had approximately 125 registered patrons since we started promotion in early Oct and we've had very few problems - we expected some challenges since we were an early adopter on this but it's been very smooth for patrons who are familiar with technology, a few bumps with users who don't have much computer/mobile device experience but that's to be expected and has been easily addressed since most questions are along the lines of "how do I create an account", "what's an app", etc..
We'd love to have a few key titles that are missing (People, Sports Illustrated, and Better Homes) but so many popular magazines are available it's an awesome start. In a nutshell this is easily the best new service we've introduced this year.
Brad
I meant to email you in response to your first email but time got away from me.
My library has been using Zinio since July and I really like the service. I want to second everything Mike told you. We paid a set-up fee of a couple thousand with subscriptions costing between $10-20. Staff love the service and love showing the public how it works. Of all the digital services Licking County Library offers, it is the one that really catches the public's attention and interest. It's the service with which I always end my download classes to leave the attendees with lots of enthusiasm for what we offer.
One plus for me personally is that my own personal magazine subscriptions show up alongside the magazine subscriptions.
Another plus is, with Newsweek going all digital, Zinio offers a digital subscription so your patrons can continue getting that information.
One downside is that some popular magazines like People or Entertainment Weekly are not available for library lending.
One thing I have found, even though the Nooks don't have a Zinio app, there is a work around for the Nook Color or Tablet. If someone has one of those, you can stream the magazines. That means the patron would have to stay connected to the internet but it is a way to view the subscriptions. You open the library's Zinio page on the web browser, add the subscription to your Zinio account, and click on the cover to stream it.
I didn't realize that Zinio had newspapers available. I have a meeting today with Debbie from Recorded Books so I'll have to ask her if we can lend newspapers. If we can, I know a lot of our patrons would be interested!
I hope this helps! I've attached a copy of my instructions for Zinio to this email. If you have any questions, please let me know.
