See those new parents in your library's Children section? They need a hand, though they may not know it. Everyone has their favorite books from childhood, and those are fun books to find. But what books will help their 1 year-old build language skills? Unless they've received Early Literacy training, they probably don't know. They may not even know that's a question they could ask. 

As popular as ebooks are these days, people choose print when they want to read books with children. That's not a guess. It's based on high-quality research from the Pew Research Center . So lots of new parents go to their local library. 



Lots of new parents don't know that library story times are designed to build language and literacy skills. If you'd like attendance at your story time to grow, invite them to come. Offer a book that matches their child's developmental level. Take the initiative. Go meet those parents.

That's when Lee Rainie , Director of the Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Life Project, is coming to speak at SWON's Lunch, Learn and Membership Meeting. He'll share their latest results on libraries, the focus of a $1.4 million grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and answer your questions.
