We have an opening for head of our outreach department. Please see the

will receive priority. This position primarily coordinates bookmobile
services (approximately 100 stops/month) as well as outreach to
homebound patrons and participation in community events. Please include

Position: Outreach Services Coordinator

Starting Salary: $30,446-$33,000

 

Department: Outreach Services

Immediate Supervisor: Director

 

Description

Employee's primary responsibility is managing the operations of the
Outreach Services Department as well as coordinating system-wide
outreach to selected populations.  Promotes achievement of the library's
strategic plan objectives.

 

Responsibilities of the position

Establishes goals and objectives for services to selected populations
which support the Library's mission.

Directs all department activities, including library services for older
adults, people with disabilities, and services to children. Works with
representatives of specific groups to make sure the needs of their
constituents are met. This includes, but is not limited to, senior
centers, daycare centers, schools etc.

Maintains the library's outreach collection of materials, including
selection and weeding. 

Promotes community awareness of the library and bookmobile services.
Serves as principal contact for community groups, organizations, and
individuals interested in outreach services and develops and implements
programs in the community. Coordinates participation in community
events.

Serves as contact person for information regarding services for the
visually impaired.

Coordinates and monitors the quality and effectiveness of existing
programs.

Submits monthly and annual reports.

Develop and schedule bookmobile stops for schools, nursery/preschools,
senior facilities, and institutions, as well as home delivery. 

Ensures proper operation of the Department motor vehicle fleet,
initiating maintenance and repair with established service providers.
Drives bookmobile as needed.Maintains safe and careful operation of
Department motor vehicles for both staff and patrons.  Ensures that all
staff is fully trained in vehicle operational and safety procedures.
Establishes clear safety protocols for staff.

Works reference desk shifts and/or circulation shifts as assigned. 

Maintains knowledge of current trends and new professional techniques in
librarianship through professional reading, workshops, and involvement
in professional organizations.

Participates in development and implementation of organization-wide
policies and procedures.

Plan, lead, coordinate, oversee, and execute projects as assigned.

Performs other related duties as required.

 

Qualifications

Education and Experience: ALA accredited MLS or related Master's Degree
required or equivalent experience.  Minimum of three years professional
library reference experience. Minimum of two years supervisory
experience. Self-motivated, organized, efficient, and productive with
excellent time management skills. Able to drive bookmobile or other
library vehicles with a clean driving record and able to be insured.

 

Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Collaborative and creative, with a win-win disposition. Knowledge of
motivation and mentoring techniques and collaborative work style.
Ability to follow directions and make decisions within stated
guidelines. A sense of humor and strong service orientation are a must!

 

Technical and Physical Requirements:

Excellent computer skills with superior working knowledge of traditional
and electronic resources including websites and databases;   excellent
online searching skills. 

Flexible schedule requirements, able to work some nights and weekends.

Ability to stand for extended periods of time and lift a minimum of 30
pounds.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities: Carries out supervisory responsibilities
in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees,
planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance,
rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints, and
resolving problems.
