New Castle District Library Director Position

The New Castle Public Library in New Castle, PA serves a local population of
64,000, and is the District Center for four counties - Lawrence, Armstrong,
Mercer, and Butler. It is the headquarters of the Lawrence County Federated
system, along with Ellwood City Area Public Library, and F.D. Campbell
Memorial Library in Bessemer, PA.

Job Summary:

Under the Library Board of Directors, the Library Director implements,
administers, and supervises library operations.  The Director is System
Administrator for the Lawrence County Federated System, and identifies and
promotes library services, resources, and programs to the service areas
within the county.  In addition, the Director is Administrator for the
Library District, encompassing 19 state-aided libraries.

Job Responsibilities:

.           Plans and administers the local library and the district library
center's programs and staff for the short and long term needs of the library

.           Administers Library District, including supervision of District
Consultant

.           Promotes public relations and outreach, staff development, and
facility and service evaluations

.           As administrator of the Federated system, identifies and
promotes library services, resources, and programs to the service areas
within the county

.           Outreach and cooperation with various community groups, and
affiliates with local, state, and national advocates and professional
organizations and attends relevant meetings and workshops

.           Acts as an agent for the Board of Trustees in matters as
directed by the Board  

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: 

*	Excellent written and oral communication skills, public speaking and
organizational skills.
*	Ability to administer the activities of a public library and to
supervise the work of others.
*	Ability to develop short and long term development, plans, and
objectives.
*	Ability to relate well to the public, library staff, and the Board
of Trustees

Minimum Requirements:

 

.         ALA-accredited MLS with a minimum of five years professional
public library experience, with at least two years in administration

.         Preference will be given to those willing to relocate to Lawrence
County within one year
