Cost: $50 for OPC members and $75 for non-members.

Workshop details:
Learn how to make a custom cardboard clamshell box using acid-free archival corrugated board, safe for archival storage. This workshop will teach a method of making a corrugated clamshell box with the aid of an Excel spreadsheet to calculate the measurements of the box. Corrugated clamshell boxes are elegant, lightweight, and a durable solution for storing special collection books or brittle bindings.
Archival corrugated board is also convenient and safe to use to meet other collection storage needs, such as creating compression enclosures for storing vellum bindings or for storing books with additional components.
The workshop will include examples of how to customize your corrugated boxes to fit wedge shaped books, vellum bindings that tend to warp, or books with additional documents or parts.
Materials outlined below should be enough for students to make 2 – 3 boxes. Students should bring 4 bound items that they would like to box. Bring an assortment of shapes so that variations can be made, but bring items that are at least an inch thick and not too large, approximately 8” tall x 6”wide.
