Congress isn't working this summer . . . in Washington, that is. However, Members and their local staffs are working double-time back in their home states and Congressional Districts meeting with constituents, taking their calls, and reading voters' e-mails and tweets. That means that NOW is the perfect time for you to contact both of your U.S. Senators with a critical message about protecting your privacy . . . not to mention the Constitution.

Please, take just three minutes today to contact both of your Senators (here's where to find them easily<http://cqrcengage.com/ala/app/thru?ep=AAAAC2Flc0NpcGhlcjAxVPYRDP1pyQVLuOKDdhCjkpEHl4-MpK7qM0fNQTj0GD4bogm-vzqsFUGHzlcBBAkU-_l5k0TPd8NxvWSsccaqiAmzNqQS1JLGwta9Y1_dZR3-0V1awx_Rq3khvbRK14n60f3I-EiLs0sq662nr4rbJw&lp=0>) with a message about two key pieces of legislation - one good, one awful - that may well be among the very few bills the Senate actually considers this September before recessing again for the November elections. Tell your Senators that you want them to:

  * "Co-sponsor" (that word is key) S. 2685, Sen. Leahy's new version of the USA Freedom Act<http://cqrcengage.com/ala/app/thru?ep=AAAAC2Flc0NpcGhlcjAxxn3DYjYyCGn5pWSCkECeSpaIO24_ALdHfj4jTWIPi-XzG-1-hcvjmuxfVeudpG257ulUBB30DNrcwvYFAYytYWq0X-5yqNvmUVmpFknt-1BV2qnnt2ms_qPMxggVXUHJMqBiU3L33o1DnUtRY7Qgc9_6FwJmRvm6WFliLgAYX0YGp0O4ji4uugh83XPavNkuTUsQ5H9Nmy0JqDcxuMWFU99lNLAP02c6EmmaOVpcp0yadfFcl8y_BF2KFD1GlvSM&lp=0> (which will finally end the NSA's warrantless, dragnet collection of all of our telephone call records) AND urge their "Leadership" (key word again), to bring S. 2685 to a vote in the Senate immediately after Congress returns from the summer recess; and ask your Senators to . . .
  * Tell Senate Homeland Security Committee Chairman Tom Carper (a Delaware Democrat) and the Committee's "Ranking" Republican, Sen. Tom Coburn of Oklahoma, that their Homeland Security Committee should take no action in 2014 on any version of the Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act "CISA" (currently S. 2588)<http://cqrcengage.com/ala/app/thru?ep=AAAAC2Flc0NpcGhlcjAxyYt-4QfbSwGogFUoZ1hEjmT-lQvQDrBGoSbKYR1F4wUP0hazJhRO8UIDXiUDQ8xGVsGv2UOUltw9_7o_-qZ0oREnRPLPBmHklIYv60AM3zOJQFUspm8ZiNy37jzzXLcQbfC2GsF_cg8aI98spuIrl9RSwlMjNNym6MTXMx9O8J6xpeuFMioYJzSzaHgF5DPtHYkDF73WjCNjs4fFBHTEHVhneujiHWaOK2T9-tKyhwB0w2cj5NL7GfkdprW6jSbGWMOValxAyNIt_2zhJ2KyvQ&lp=0>. (CISA, among many other invasive things, would automatically and over-broadly share with the NSA and many other agencies personal information about U.S. citizens reported to the Department of Homeland security by private companies in connection with their effort s to identify "cyber-threats.")

Your local contact now with your Senator really can make the difference in pushing the USA Freedom Act through the Senate (and to the President's desk) and in stopping CISA in its tracks before it can gain any dangerous legislative momentum.

Follow the links to District Dispatch below for more on these two privacy-critical bills and, please, contact both of your Senators today!
