 Please excuse the cross-posting:

Author Kathryn Stockett will speak at Koehler Center on the campus of the University of Findlay on Friday, March 28 at 7 p.m. as the feature event for the twelfth annual CommunityREAD. Ms. Stockett's first novel, The Help, was selected to be read and discussed by the entire community during the month of March. The Help, published in 2009, has sold over 10 million copies and has been translated into more than forty-one languages. A 2011 film version was nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
The book, The Help, tells the story of three ordinary women who are about to take one extraordinary step. With the civil rights movement exploding all around them, three women start a movement of their own, forever changing a town and the way women--black and white, mothers and daughters--view one another. A deeply moving novel filled with poignancy, humor, and hope, The Help is a timeless and universal story about the lines we abide by, and the ones we don't.
In addition to The Help, three related YouthREAD books have been selected. This year's youth books are; Back of the Bus, by Aaron Reynolds, illustrated by Floyd Cooper, Child of the Civil Rights Movement, by Paula Young Shelton, illustrated by Raul Colon and Lions of Little Rock, by Kristin Levine.
Copies of the CommunityREAD and YouthREAD books are available for loan at the Findlay-Hancock County Public Library and area school libraries. Tickets for the March 28th event are available at the library's check-out desk for $5 and at the door the evening of the presentation.
CommunityREAD is a month-long community event that encourages reading and promotes the benefits of literacy. Originally created by the Findlay-Hancock County Community Foundation, the administration of CommunityREAD was assumed by the Findlay-Hancock County Public Library in 2012. Each year, a different book is chosen and read by community members during the month of March. Various events are planned throughout the month at the library and throughout the community. CommunityREAD 2014 and Ms. Stockett's presentations are funded by a Findlay-Hancock County Community Foundation grant, business and private sponsors, and the library's general fund. For further information about Community Read, visit www.findlaylibrary.org<http://www.findlaylibrary.org> or call the library at 419-422-1712.
