[OPLINLIST] iPads Out!

Does your library have an iPad that patrons never see? Here's a tip that 
makes it much easier to make it available: lock the iPad so that users 
can't leave the app you choose.

It's a featured called *Guided Access* and it's available in the 
Settings under Accessibility. Once you've switched it on and set a 
4-digit passcode, you launch an app like you usually would. Then 
triple-click the Home button to bring up the Guided Access settings.

*Sarah Tozier*, from Preble County Library, shared this and other iPad 
tips at yesterday's STEM Summer Reading Program. She connected an iPad 
to a digital projector and demonstrated The Human Body by Tinybop

along several other apps. The Human Body is an illustrated, animated 
guide to the human body that's both kid-friendly and highly detailed--no 
small feat!

In my house, the Toca Boca

apps are a big hit with our toddler. In Toca Kitchen 
<https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/toca-kitchen/id476553281?mt=8&at=10l4Dq> you're 
a short-order cook for four animated characters. Each has their favorite 
foods and other dishes they won't touch unless you cook it the way they 
like. It's fun open play you can join in with a child.

In Toca Tailor 
<https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/toca-tailor/id556430416?mt=8&at=10l4Dq>, four 
different characters are ready for your fashion wisdom. Design clothes 
for them, dress and accessorize them and see if they like your style.

Each of these apps costs $2.99, which is very little when it comes to a 
software purchase. But if you'd like to know when they're on sale, sign

you can mark apps you'd like to buy and be notified when they go on 
sale. It's easy to try out new apps when they're free!
