[OPLINLIST] Tornado procedures

We usually have taken cover and had nothing more than a thunderstorm. Last summer in July, we took cover as usual but when it was over, we discovered much of the town (including my house, just blocks from the library) was without power, trees were down and blocking streets, etc. The library never lost power, and it took several days for everything to get back on, so that was good for patrons who came to use our wifi, etc.

Everyone moves to the tornado safe area, people are free to leave if they choose, we have the radar up on a laptop if available (or someone uses their smartphone). ~LLW

What do other libraries do when a tornado warning is issued for their library? Do you "suggest" or require patrons to move to a tornado safe area (or as safe as you can get?) What considerations do you take for cash register drawers, DVD collections, etc.?
