Wednesday, May 28, 2014 ♦ 2 pm Eastern / 1 pm Central / 11 am Pacific ♦ 60 min
Registration: http://www.webjunction.org/events/webjunction/technology-planning-for-ehealth.html
As the intersection of digital technology and individual health management grows, patrons will turn to libraries to access digital resources and learn how to put technology to work for their health. A recent IMLS study<http://impact.ischool.washington.edu/us-public-library-study.html> showed that an estimated 37 percent of library computer users (28 million people) explore health and wellness issues, including learning about medical conditions, finding health care providers, and assessing health insurance options. Join the Health Happens in Libraries team to learn how public libraries can leverage their technology infrastructure to better serve the health information needs of patrons. Participants will learn best practices and resources for eHealth technology planning for libraries of all sizes. Participants will also be introduced to strategies for communicating with community partners about their technology resources, and identifying ways to build eHealth services through collaboration

Best Small Libraries in America: Vital, Innovative and Thriving
Thursday, June 5, 2014 ♦ 2 pm Eastern / 11 am Pacific ♦ 60 min
Registration: http://www.webjunction.org/events/webjunction/best-small-libraries-in-america-vital-innovative-thriving.html

Library Journal's annual Best Small Library in America Award, cosponsored by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, was created in 2005 to discover and reward exemplary work by libraries serving populations under 25,000, and to showcase these best practices to provide a replicable case study for their peers. In collaboration with the Association for Rural and Small Libraries<http://www.arsl.info/> and Library Journal, we are pleased to host this webinar featuring the two most recent award winners, 2013 Best Small Library in America: Southern Area Public Library<http://lj.libraryjournal.com/2013/01/awards/best-small-library-in-america-2013-southern-area-public-library-wv/> and 2014 Best Small Library in America: Pine River Library<http://lj.libraryjournal.com/2014/01/awards/best-small-library-in-america-2014-pine-river-library-co/>. Join us to learn how these two libraries have developed creative programming, extensive partnerships, and innovative and responsive services so they can identify, meet, and even anticipate the ever-evolving needs of their communities.

The session will include an overview of the nomination process<http://lj.libraryjournal.com/awards/best-small-library-in-america-award-nomination-guidelines/> for next year's award, as well as how previous winners have spent the prize money, and leveraged the recognition, to take their offerings to the next level.

Presented by: Amy Dodson, director, Pine River Library, CO; Mary Beth Stenger, director, Southern Area Public Library, WV; and Meredith Schwartz, senior editor, News and Features, Library Journal.

July Webinars:
Making Your Space: Creators and Makers in the Library
Wednesday, July 9, 2014 ♦ 2 pm Eastern / 11 am Pacific ♦ 60 min
Registration: http://www.webjunction.org/events/webjunction/creators-and-makers.html

There’s a transformation going on in libraries—a shift in emphasis from consuming information to convening and creating. Makerspaces in libraries are a big part of this conversation, where the learning and camaraderie are just as significant as tools like 3D printers. If the idea of a makerspace conjures up the hurdles for you (limited space, limited resources, or limited confidence in your own tech skills), this webinar will help you learn how to get started and grow a space in your library for creating. Together, we will debunk the hype, learn how to define your library’s scope and audience, get your board on board, and find creative partners in your community.

Presented by: Mara Siegel, Continuing Education Coordinator, Vermont Department of Libraries; and Samantha Maskell, Youth Services Librarian, Rockingham Free Public Library, Bellows Falls, VT

Wednesday, July 16, 2014 ♦ 12 pm Eastern / 9 am Pacific ♦ 60 min
Registration: http://www.webjunction.org/events/webjunction/libraries-as-drivers.html

Around the world, libraries are at the heart of community transformation. Instead of aiming to be responsive to emerging needs, libraries can actively push their communities to develop and thrive. Hear stories from around the globe about libraries that are a force to be reckoned with. Join us for this webinar that shares examples of libraries at the leading edge of positive change in communities in Honduras, Guatemala, Africa, Eastern Europe, and Asia. Learn about and bring home successful, practical grassroots approaches to library-driven community development. The organizations and libraries featured are grantees of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation or are beneficiaries of a foundation-supported program. Darren Hoerner, Program Officer at the Gates Foundation, will introduce the session. Guided by the belief that all lives have equal value, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation works to help all people live healthy, productive lives.

Presented by: William Cartwright, President and CEO, Riecken Community Libraries<http://www.riecken.org/>; and Ugne Lipeikaite, Impact Coordinator, EIFL-PLIP (Public Library Innovation Programme)<http://www.eifl.net/plip>
