JOB TITLE:      LIBRARIAN (INTERMEDIATE/TEEN)                             DATE:  November 3, 2014



LOCATION:      NORTHWEST AKRON BRANCH



HOURS:           Full-time (37.5 hours), including evening and weekend hours;

                        Not job-share eligible



SALARY:          Grade 11, $19.08/hour



DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides services to customers in fourth through twelfth grades, including: collection maintenance and merchandising; materials; planning and conducting programs; actively representing the library in the community through visits to schools; cooperates with area teachers in the selection of appropriate materials; establishing sustained community engagement relationship with local organization and agencies; providing reference and readers' advisory; creating an attractive and appealing young adult area; cooperating closely with the Early Childhood Librarian in providing family and multi-age programming; performing daily circulation routines; and performing other tasks as assigned.



REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:



Knowledge of professional library science, including familiarity with reference and bibliographic resources in the intermediate/young adult services areas; good knowledge of reader interest levels; good knowledge of intermediate/young adult publishers and their practices; ability to develop programs; good research skills; ability to speak and write effectively; sound professional judgment; ability to direct the work of others; and good customer-relation skills, including a pleasing personality and the ability to get along well with others.  A Master of Library and Information Science degree issued by an ALA-accredited school of library and information science is required, and some previous library experience is preferred.  Applicants within 6 credit hours or less toward completion of an M.L.I.S. degree will also be considered under certain conditions.  Individuals hired under these conditions will begin as a Public Service Assistant lll, Grade 10, Step 1, ($18.58/hr), and upon confirmation of completion of the M.L.I.S. degree will be moved to Librarian, Grade 6, Step 1, ($19.08/hr).
