[OPLINLIST] Digital signage

We have a "event kiosk" that shows the daily events / room reservations and we have large touchscreen that shows events and provides wayfinding.  The data is pulled from Evanced via its RSS feed and we provide better graphical data by filtering the RSS feed through a local server before Anode (anode.com) picks it up, so updating is automatic and follows the course of the day.

Patron reaction has been quiet in both cases--the commonplace functionality of the service, which everyone has seen at malls and such, does not inspire comment.  There have been no customer complaints, however, which means that the installation is doing its job.

For those of you who do have digital signage in the library, what has the patrons' response been? I've wanted to do this (large screen tv behind the service desk), but some folks have wondered if the patrons would find it distracting or disturbing in an environment where they may be seeking peace and quiet. (In today's library? Ha!)

We are looking to possibly adding digital signage in the library to promote programming, services, announcements, etc. For the libraries who already use digital signage, what software are you using, is it user-friendly, number of monitors you are using and what costs were involved?
