Lima Public Library Security Supervisor, Dave Vastano, has asked me to
send out an email to alert your library about a man, Jack Lynn, who is
claiming to be from Olympia Book Company, Inc.  He has come to the
Library wearing a t-shirt with rock band logos and jeans on two separate
occasions seeking a meeting with the children's librarian.  He has been
pushy and didn't take no for an answer the first time.  He carries
children's books in a plastic bag and tries to sell them to children's
librarians.  Today, I was able to obtain his information and he gave me
order forms with a company name, address, and phone number listed on
them.  When we checked with the Better Business Bureau, there was not a
listing for the company.  Googling the company only comes up with a
directory type of page.  We called the number on the order form and
stated that a rep from their company had stopped in but after
consideration, we've decided not to order from them.  The receptionist
said that she'd give our message to "Jack".  He also stopped by one of
our branch libraries this afternoon.

 

Officer Vastano suspects that this may not be a legitimate company or
maybe someone trying to start up a small business using books purchased
from a wholesaler.  The prices on the price sheet do not reflect a
discount.  Mr. Lynn mentioned that he was intending to connect with
other Ohio libraries and even asked for directions to Findlay's library.

 

Please be aware that this individual may contact your children's
librarian(s) and you should proceed with caution when dealing with him.
