[OPLINLIST] Nobi tablets vs AWE Workstations

Last year we put into place some all-in-one touch screen computers. The Windows App Store is positively stocked with great edutainment software and the tile screen is a great, simple way to showcase and organize those apps by age. Since they all use the same Microsoft user, apps purchased during set-up migrated to all the others. DeepFreeze reboots them on idle. There’s no need to set out a mouse or keyboard. We use the cheapest headphones we can find ($1.25) and replace them as needed. We keep them off network (mainly so that game progress isn’t saved and migrated to other computers, and to stop any chance of in-app purchase mistakes). I suppressed all other Windows Apps and programs so the only thing that can be used are the games.

They are big and pretty and themed (wallpaper, screen saver) with popular children’s book characters like Thomas the Train and Curious George. Kids really like them and they are in extensive use (my picture taking scared a few away, haha)

We initially considered AWE but couldn’t imagine paying the cost. If I’d have heard of those Nabi Big Tabs I would have checked into them, though. That’s a nice price if the software is solid and manageable.

Subject: [OPLINLIST] Nobi tablets vs AWE Workstations

Hello everyone,

I have been tasked with researching for some alternatives to the AWE workstations and our Director came across the Nobi 20" tablets. Has anyone else tried these? How do they compare to to the workstations? We have ordered one for testing but would love to hear from other libraries.

Thanks,

John Ross
