Love change? Hate change? Think you might be tired of hearing about change?

Like it or not, change probably isn’t going away, nor can we really stop
talking about it, even if we are sometimes sick of hearing about it. Change
is inevitable and often beyond our control – even for those in the upper
echelons who need to respond to forces, ideas and powers that originate
outside of the library world.

However, the concept of resilience may give us a way to respond to change,
both in the library world and in our personal lives. Resilience is about
preparing for change – even though we have no way of being sure what form
that change will take – and about how we can respond to change, not simply
react.

It’s okay not to predict what form change will take. In fact, it is
impossible. Keeping a calm head in a rapidly changing situation, or even a
crisis, isn’t something that comes naturally to everyone… even those who
seem like an oasis of calm in the midst of panic.Instead, being ready to
tackle change is a skill just like everything else and one that you can
practice.
