Take 5 is a day of dialogue and discovery for public librarians and library workers specializing in teen services, school librarians, museum and arts educators, after school and recreation leaders, and other youth advocates.


The sixth annual Take 5 event continues our exploration of creative approaches, new ideas, collaboration, and network-building to inspire you and help you recharge.  Last year, we invited you to "Level Up! Level Out!" and move beyond the basics of youth services. This year we challenge you to reflect on the past and energize your plans for the future.


*        Our featured speaker, Katrina Kittle, novelist and TedX speaker, will share tools to create positive change for ourselves and our young people.

*        A panel of speakers representing organizations that support vulnerable and marginalized populations will speak to their work, especially with young people, and how librarians, educators, and other allies can support these populations.

*        Interactive brainstorming and reflection sessions will encourage attendees to exchange ideas, share successes, and inspire each other.

*        LEGO challenges to build teamwork will demonstrate how to easily incorporate STEAM into your programs.

*        Hands-on activity stations, from kitchen science to electronic textiles, ukuleles to unicycles, will provide you a wealth of ideas to bring back to your workplace and community.


Bonus: Arrive early and enjoy Thursday evening in Dayton with other Take 5 attendees!  From a Breakout Room challenge to an interactive exploration of the YouTuber phenomenon, the evening promises conversation, discovery, and fun.  Attendees may also stay after and explore Dayton on Friday afternoon. Take 5 is supported by LSTA funds administered by the State Library of Ohio and by a generous contribution from SWON Libraries Consortium. **To register for this event, you must be a registered member on the SWON website. This is simple and free to do, but website registration must be approved. If registering on Sunday through Friday, processing may take up to 24 hours. If you register over the weekend, it may take up to 48 hours.
