Author Amy Stewart returns to the Hudson Library & Historical Society to discuss her New York Times bestseller, Wicked Plants: The Weed that Killed Lincoln’s Mother and Other Botanical Atrocities. In Wicked Plants, Stewart tackles plants that kill, maim, intoxicate and otherwise offend. Learn about which plants to avoid (like exploding shrubs), which plants make themselves exceedingly unwelcome (like the vine that ate the South) and which ones have been killing for centuries (like the weed that killed Abraham Lincoln’s mother). Stewart will draw upon history, medicine, science and more for this lively and entertaining program.

Author William Geroux will discuss his book, The Mathews Men: Seven Brothers and the War Against Hitler’s U-Boats, which tells the fascinating true story of seven U.S. merchant marine brothers who found themselves as targets of U-boats off the coast of the United States during World War II. Kirkus called it “poignant…a deep, compassionate group biography of these ‘unsung heroes’ of the Merchant Marines.” If you liked Boys in the Boat, you'll love this program!
