Job Title: Adult Services Librarian

Reports to: Head of Adult Services

Hours: Full-Time (39.5 hours weekly)

Hourly Rate: $16.50/hr, increasing to $17.00 after 90 days.



Responsibilities of the Position

  *   Provide reference assistance and readers’ advisory services, assist patrons with computers and digital devices, teach public classes, plan and present programs, lead book discussion groups, create displays, and perform collection development duties as assigned.
  *   Assist patrons in identifying and locating appropriate materials using electronic, print, and other resources; train patrons in the use of library resources.
  *   Actively promote library services, programs, and materials to the public and staff.
  *   Attend training courses and workshops which are applicable to the job.



Qualifications

  *   An MLS or MLIS degree from an ALA accredited school is required. Additional requirements include a successful background check as well as satisfactory completion of an initial 90 day probationary period.
  *   Must have valid driver’s license and be willing to travel locally as well as attend meetings in the region and within the state.
  *   Must be able to accommodate a flexible schedule, including some weekend and evening hours.
  *   Must be able both to sit and to stand for extended periods of time and occasionally lift a minimum of forty (40) pounds.
  *   Previous public library experience is preferred.



Required Knowledge and Abilities

  *   Familiarity with current professional trends and practices in librarianship.
  *   Demonstrable mastery and a thorough knowledge of print and online information resources.
  *   High comfort level and familiarity with common technologies including computer hardware, software, and mobile devices such as e-Readers, tablets, and smart phones.
  *   Self-motivated, organized, efficient, and productive work habits with excellent time management skills.
  *   Ability to work independently, accurately, and with attention to detail.
  *   Ability to develop community relationships and work collaboratively with others.
  *   Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  *   Ability Retain, follow, and explain organizational procedures, processes, policies, and operations
  *   Knowledge of local history a plus.
