Part time-Youth/Public Services Specialist

Position Title: Youth/Public Services Specialist

Classification: Librarian Assistant Range 4

Hours /FLSA status: Hourly, Non-Exempt Part-time; Must be able to work a varied schedule, including mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends.

Starting Hourly Wage: $14.86 hourly

Reports to: Head of Public Services

In the Public Services Department, we provide service to all ages within our own walls and out in the community.  We are seeking an individual with excellent communication skills and customer service skills to join our Public Services team as a Youth/Public Services Specialist at Madison Public Library.  Being passionate about public libraries and working with preschool and young children is the key for success. Candidates must be proficient in technology, use of computers, and familiar with emerging technologies, and enjoy working on a team.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  *   Assisting with the planning and implementation of youth programming, including story-times.
  *   Provides direct library service such as reference, reader's advisory, outreach, emerging technologies, and programming to all library patrons.
  *   Assisting customers of all ages in the full use of the Library and its digital and print resources.
  *   Promoting Library resources, programs, and services.

Requirements are:

  *   Bachelor's degree required or significant experience in lieu of a degree
  *   Excellent communication, interpersonal, public speaking skills, and superior customer service skills.
  *   Experience working creatively with youth
  *   Knowledge of children's interests and popular culture
  *   Proficient in the use of technology, computers, Windows, and MS Office
  *   Ability to stand, walk, reach, bend, sit and kneel
  *   Valid driver's license and transportation to perform outreach
