The Athens County Public Libraries seek a full time (35 hours per week)
Branch Manager for the Athens Public Library in Athens, OH. This position
is responsible for library services delivered to patrons at the Athens
Public Library; including scheduling, supervision, and evaluation of
library staff; planning and booking library programs based on patron and
staff input; and formulating goals and objectives for the branch library
within the scope of system policies.

Athens is a vibrant and progressive “rural-cosmopolitan” community of
25,000 located approximately 75 miles from Columbus, Ohio, the state's
capital. It is home to Ohio University, a state university of over 20,000
students from every state in the nation and about 100 other countries,
offering undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degrees, as well as a
four-year program in osteopathic medicine. As a college town, the community
hosts a wide variety of arts and cultural events year-round and many unique
restaurants, wineries, and breweries. The area is also known for its scenic
beauty, and features a national forest, state parks, and a 19-mile paved
recreation path that connects the cities of Athens and Nelsonville.
Recreation opportunities abound, including hiking, bicycling, boating,
fishing, camping, hunting, and canoeing on the Hocking River and
surrounding lakes.

The Athens Public Library was established as a branch of the Nelsonville
Library in 1940. Until then, the library’s board felt that the citizens of
Athens were being served by the university’s library. However, it realized
that the county library could offer a different type of material from that
currently available on campus. The Athens branch opened on May 1, 1940 in
rooms rented at 17 W. Union St. The library’s current building at 30 Home
Street was erected in 1992 and expanded in 2002. The successful candidate
will be able to demonstrate a commitment to building on and further
developing the library’s relationship to this active and engaged community.

Candidates must have a college degree at the bachelor’s level or equivalent
library experience, and 2 years of professional experience in a library or
education setting. Candidates holding an MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited
institution are preferred. Salary begins at $18.00 per hour and is
negotiable depending on qualifications. For a complete job description
please visit www.myacpl.org.

To apply send a resume and cover letter to jobs at myacpl.org. Applications
received by January 1, 2019 will receive first consideration. Questions
should be directed to jobs at myacpl.org, no calls please.

*The Athens County Public Libraries are an equal opportunity employer
providing employment opportunities for all applicants and employees without
regard to race, color, religion, sex, age, disability, national origin,
veteran/military status, genetic information, or any other characteristic
protected by law.*
