Take 5: An Ohio Youth Services Day of Dialogue
Friday, May 4, 2018 (with optional activities on Thursday, May 3)
Loudonville Public Library, Loudonville, Ohio

Take 5 is headed to Loudonville, in the beautiful Mohican area, to continue exploring creative approaches, new ideas, collaboration, and network-building to inspire you and help you recharge.  For the seventh annual event, the planning team is creating a quality, unconventional professional development experience on the theme "For Teens, With Teens".

Take 5 is a day of dialogue and discovery for public library teen and youth services specialists, school librarians, and other youth advocates. Take 5 events are packed solid with active learning opportunities, conversation, engaging speakers, hands-on activities and demos, and networking with allies in and beyond the library field. Attendees will exchange ideas, share successes, and inspire each other. Expect to be surprised, challenged, affirmed, and invigorated.

Registration is anticipated to open by early February. Registration will be announced on this list and other Ohio library listservs, and will be posted to the Take 5 webpage (library.ohio.gov/take5<http://library.ohio.gov/take5>) and Facebook page (www.facebook.com/Take5YouthServices<http://www.facebook.com/Take5YouthServices>). Event cost is TBD, but will be as inexpensive as possible and will include lunch, refreshments, and materials.

Bonus: arrive early and enjoy Thursday evening at the fabulous Mohican State Lodge with other Take 5 attendees. Enriching, fun evening activities are on tap, and the lodge is offering a special room rate of only $89 for attendees (lodging block instructions to come).

Attendees at the Take 5: Empowering Youth Advocates event in May 2017 reported learning these things (and much more) to take back to their work practice:

*        the courage to stretch & change with the teen services staff

*        that we are doing a good job simply by loving our kids

*        how to create a safe place for the teens, so they feel welcomed at the library

*        how to approach teens, and the importance of consistency

*        the willingness to try new ideas and encourage collaboration

*        the determination to allow teens to have a bigger voice
