[OPLINLIST] Weeding Tip

Hello all!

One of our team members found a way to work smarter not harder when weeding:


   - Instead of dragging books to her desk and piling them everywhere, she
   took photos with her smartphone of the books that had been pulled off of a
   shelf (by reason of publication date) and placed on a cart.
   - At her workstation, using the photo, she looked up by title (this lets
   us see what other branches in our system have the book).
   - This saved her the steps of hauling the book truck to her desk,
   picking each title up and scanning them.
   - Once she determined the books meet the criteria for weeding she
   withdraws them from our ILS, goes back to the cart, stamps them and sends
   them on to our Friend's book sale.

Saves wear and tear on her arms and repetitive arm motion and already, with
a small batch of photos, she can tell it will save her lots of time.

We are a rural library system with limited staff and limited counter or
workspace. We have to multitask and sometimes weeding is logistically a
challenge (since we are helping customers, too). But we believe in weeding
continuously. Not sure if this made any sense, but I thought it was clever.
I've included one of her photos of Large Print titles being considered for
weeding.
