[OPLINLIST] 2018 Ohio Summer Library/Reading Program Survey preview

Some Ohio libraries have already kicked off their summer programs, and many more will start in the next couple weeks. Amid all the fun and busyness, please note that the State Library asks all Ohio public libraries to report on their summer library program/summer reading program (SLP/SRP) at program's end.

Your participation in the 2018 SLP/SRP Evaluation will help the State Library, Regional Library Systems, cooperating state agencies, and the Collaborative Summer Library Program to provide the most useful resources and support to Ohio's libraries.

Your participation also allows us to tell stakeholders and decision-makers how summer programs and activities at public libraries positively impact children, teens, families, adults, and communities.

The survey will be open from early June through the end of September.  A link will be posted to OPLINlist, the Library Youth Services list, and the Small Libraries list, and will appear on the Ohio SRP page of the State Library website (library.ohio.gov/ohio-summer-reading-program<https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Flibrary.ohio.gov%2Fohio-summer-reading-program&data=01%7C01%7Cjdwyer%40library.ohio.gov%7C1bc6db28178d41d84cb008d4a386f998%7C50f8fcc494d84f0784eb36ed57c7c8a2%7C0&sdata=%2FEIk0TfIT5C2lF0%2FlZcpoV0RkvnQKF4ZW0Z6n7T77QI%3D&reserved=0>).  Please help achieve 100% participation for 2018.

Here is a summary of the questions on the survey.  Review these questions, and track your SLP/SRP activities accordingly if possible.  The survey should take you as little as 3-5 minutes if you have your numbers ready at hand, longer if you have extensive feedback to share.

Please note we are no longer asking for registration and completion numbers, because an increasing number of libraries no longer use traditional registration or completion methods. Instead, we are just asking for the number of individuals (by age group) who participated in your SLP/SRP, and the head count at SLP/SRP-related programs. Also, we are no longer asking if you used the CSLP theme. We continue to welcome your ratings and comments on CSLP services and products.

2018 Ohio SLP/SRP Evaluation Preview:

  *   Library contact information
  *   Did your library offer a summer reading/library program in 2018 for children? Teens? Adults?
  *   How many children/teens/adults participated?
  *   How do you define participation?
  *   What was the total attendance at your children's, teen, adult, and all-ages library programs held during SLP/SRP?

*        Optional: registration/completion numbers, completion rate, outcomes, and/or any analysis of your results that you wish to share.

  *   If you distributed the Ohio State Fair coupon, Ohio State Parks certificate, and/or Ohio Renaissance Festival coupon as an incentive, how many of each did you distribute?
  *   Did your library participate in the Summer Food Service Program?
  *   Please rate various statewide/CSLP services and products, including the CSLP manual, workshops, State Fair and State Parks incentives, etc.
  *   Additional feedback, comments, suggestions

We will also again collect anecdotes and photos from libraries, to share statewide to demonstrate the positive impact of public library summer programming. Photos and stories may also be used in presentations, print, and/or online publications that communicate the importance of libraries for summer enrichment and literacy support.  I encourage you to share your photos and stories with the State Library, so we can show off your summer activities and their benefits.
