[cid:image006.jpg at 01D3F807.09D415B0]The State Library is pleased to announce the launch of Libraries by the Numbers<http://www.librariesbythenumbers.org/>, an online tool to help Ohio public libraries create custom infographics to visualize data from their IMLS (Institute for Museum and Library Services<http://www.imls.gov>) Public Library Surveys. Libraries by the Numbers enables Ohio public libraries to use their own statistical data from the survey to create attractive and engaging custom infographics. Ohio public library directors were surveyed throughout the project, seeking feedback on the site design, usability and content.

Libraries by the Numbers includes six pre-established infographic templates based on general library service categories-library overview, materials and circulation, technology, programming, youth services and adult services. The online tool also features customizable infographics and multi-year trend charts templates. Public libraries may use their infographics to communicate their value and aid their staff, boards and the public in developing stronger library services.

"The State Library of Ohio is delighted to make Libraries by the Numbers available to Ohio's public libraries," expressed State Librarian Beverly Cain. "The easy-to-use infographics make it easier for libraries to use data to tell their stories to stakeholders and decision-makers. We are excited for libraries to begin using this new tool and we appreciate the input they provided throughout the development phase."

In 2016, the State Library of Ohio received an IMLS Sparks! Ignition Grant to develop Libraries by the Numbers. The grant funds were used to contract with a web developer to develop the website for Libraries by the Numbers.

Kirstin Krumsee<mailto:kkrumsee at library.ohio.gov?subject=Libraries%20by%20the%20Numbers>, the project coordinator, will be presenting a poster on Libraries by the Numbers at ALA Annual in June 2018.

Libraries by the Numbers is available at librariesbythenumbers.org<http://www.librariesbythenumbers.org>.

The federal IMLS Sparks! Ignition Grants for Libraries provide opportunities to expand and test the boundaries of library and archive services and practices. Sparks! grants support the deployment, testing and evaluation of promising and groundbreaking new tools, [IMLS logo] products, services or organizational practices.
