To be eligible for nomination for the 2019 award, a book must have been published in the United States in the previous two years. Voting is open to any student in Ohio, and will begin on September 1, 2019 on the Buckeye Children's and Teen Book Award (BCTBA) website: www.bcbookaward.info<http://www.bcbookaward.info>. Voting ends on November 10, 2019, and the winners will be announced after December 1, 2019. Nominations for the 2020 awards are being accepted at the same website, all summer long. Ohio's reader's choice book award is notable among other state book award programs in that the nominated and winning titles are entirely selected by the state's children and teens.

The Buckeye Children's and Teen Book Award Council is pleased to continue our two partnerships, with DOGOBooks.com and TeachingBooks.net. DOGObooks.com, the leading website for book reviews by-and-for kids, hosts the BCTBA voting through an engaging interface for Ohio students to learn about the nominated books, share their reviews, and vote for their favorites. TeachingBooks.net, the professional tool for educators, will be providing free access for teachers and librarians to multimedia resources on the Buckeye-nominated books, from author interviews to literacy connections and lesson plans. Together our organizations will continue to promote the love of reading among Ohio's children and teens.

The BCTBA Council also announces the winners of the 2019 Perma-Bound Buckeye Book Awards Programming Grant. Educators and librarians who work with children in grades K-12 in Ohio applied for a grant to use the awarded books in activities or programs that promote literacy, give more children access to great books, and get children and teens involved in the Buckeye Book Award voting process. The winners are:

K-2: Anne Heninger, Media Specialist, Leverette Elementary School, Toledo
3-5: Marie Slovisky, LRC Technician, Rimer Community Learning Center, Akron Public Schools
6-8: Lisa Crutchfield, Youth Services Librarian, St. Paris Public Library
9-12/Teen: Monica Heath, Community Relations Assoc./Liaison, Friends of Medina County District Library

The winners of this grant won three copies each of the top five nominees in their grade level, for a total of 15 books, from Perma-Bound. Applications were judged on criteria including the creativity of programming proposals, the number of children that will be engaged in the activities, and the emphasis placed on increasing literacy and involvement in the Buckeye Book Award voting process. Special consideration was given to schools and organizations demonstrating financial need.
