[OPLINLIST] Alan Hall Joins State Library Board

[cid:image002.jpg at 01D4EE29.4AC74470]The State Library of Ohio is pleased to announce that the State Board of Education of Ohio recently appointed Alan Hall to the State Library Board. He was sworn in at the March 21, 2019 State Library Board meeting. Alan has over 48 years of experience in Ohio's public libraries. In his first seven years of library service, he worked his way from Page and then Circulation Assistant at Washington County Public Library in Marietta, to earning a Master of Science in Library Science (MSLS) and becoming Director of Delphos Public Library. He retired in March 2019 after spending the next 35 years of his profession as Director of Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County. Alan is familiar with the State Library's programs and services though his experiences serving on State Library committees and work as Director of a member library in the SEO Consortium.

Alan is active in his community having served as a board Member of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program and Interpreter and board member at Historic Fort Steuben. He currently serves as a member of the Ohio State University Cooperative Extension Service Advisory Board, member and current President of the Steubenville Historic Landmarks Commission of the City of Steubenville, member and immediate Past-President of the Steubenville Rotary Club, and Clerk of Session at the Two Ridges Presbyterian Church.

Alan Hall earned a Master of Science in Library Science from Case Western Reserve and a Bachelor of Science in Education from West Virginia University.

The State Library of Ohio is governed by a five-member board whose members are appointed to five-year terms or to complete an unexpired term, by the State Board of Education. Under the Ohio Revised Code, section 3375.01, members of the board cannot be recent members of the State Board of Education and cannot serve on the Board of Trustees of any other library while on the State Library Board.  When a position becomes available on the Board the State Library Board sends out a call for nominations to the Ohio Library Community and then forwards three recommendations to the State Board of Education for their consideration.
