Job Title:

SPECIAL NEEDS RESOURCE LIBRARIAN


Qualifications:

ALA-accredited MLS is required.  One to three years of public library experience preferred.  One to three years of experience working with individuals with special needs preferred.  Thorough knowledge of principles, theories and concepts of library science is required.  Excellent command of children’s literature, particularly for young children, and a passion for serving children with special needs and their families.  Comfort, familiarity and basic usage skills for new information technologies as well as strong written, verbal, customer service and interpersonal skills are required.


Brief Job Description:

Under the direction of the Youth Services Manager, the Special Needs Resource Librarian is responsible for the development, planning and implementation of programs and services dedicated to families with children who have special needs and/or adults with special needs.  Assists with collection development, markets programs and services, acts as a liaison with community organizations and maintains the children’s area as an active learning environment, advocating for the special needs segment of our community.


Hours:

40 hrs. per week.   Daytime, evening and weekend hours required.


Job Classification:

Librarian/Specialist, Salary Grade 320


Salary Range:

$19.60 - $26.40
