The Norwalk Public Library, located in Norwalk, Ohio, seeks a salaried Assistant Director/Adult Services Librarian.

The perfect candidate will be able to provide excellent internal and external customer service and make positive patron connections. They will be an energetic and a successful collaborator that will help create outstanding, engaging, and innovative services that will enrich the lives of our community members. Must have a passion for libraries and an outgoing personality. Possess the knowledge of library principles, methods, and procedures. Must have knowledge and appreciation of adult literature, periodicals, web sites, social media, and pop culture with the ability to determine patron needs. Fluency with individual electronic devices (ereaders, smart phones) and virtual library materials required.

Essential Job duties

This position is responsible for library operations in the absence of the Director. The Assistant director will also assist in providing comprehensive library service to patrons, both inside and outside the library while providing a welcoming environment for library visitors of all ages.

Some highlights include, but are not limited to:

*Participate in the hiring, training, and evaluating of staff

*Ensures that staff perform duties according to standardized procedures; implements library policies

*Effectively present information and respond to questions from patrons of all ages, staff, and other members of the community

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required.  A Master’s degree in library science from an ALA accredited program preferred. Also requested, a minimum of three to five years public library experience with progressive supervisory, management, and financial experience. An equivalent combination of education, training, and extensive experience may be substituted in lieu of the educational requirement.

Previous successful experience working with a collective bargaining unit is highly desirable.

Valid Ohio driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and ability to drive a vehicle.

Compensation and Benefits

The position offers a hiring salary range of $40,000-$50,000 (dependent upon experience and qualifications) and an exceptional benefits package.
