Subject: [OPLINLIST] An Evening with Kate Winkler Dawson, Author of American Sherlock: Murder, Forensics, and the Birth of American CSI

On Thursday, March 5 at 7 p.m. at the Hudson Library & Historical Society journalist and documentary film producer Kate Winkler Dawson will discuss her latest book, American Sherlock: Murder, Forensics, and the Birth of American CSI. The book examines the life and work of criminologist Edward Oscar Heinrich, known as "America’s Sherlock Holmes," who pioneered many early forensic techniques that police still use today, including blood spatter analysis, ballistics, lie-detector tests and the use of fingerprints as courtroom evidence. Kirkus Reviews calls it "an entertaining, absorbing combination of biography and true crime.”

Kate Winkler Dawson is a seasoned documentary producer, whose work has appeared in The New York Times, WCBS News and ABC News Radio, PBS NewsHour and Nightline. She is the author of Death in the Air: The True Story of a Serial Killer, the Great London Smog, and the Strangling of a City and teaches journalism at The University of Texas at Austin.

Copies of American Sherlock will be available for purchase and signing courtesy of the Learned Owl Book Shop. Register for this free program online at hudsonlibrary.org or call (330) 653-6658 x1010.
