LIBRARY ON WHEELS

Librarian, Full Time, Middletown, Ohio

The MidPointe bookmobile and outreach services is one way we fulfill our vision and mission of connecting a curious community and enriching our community through access and experiences.


Based out of our Library on Wheels depot in Middletown, as a librarian you'll create programs, story times, and events, and connect with our community in a number of ways. You'll get such satisfaction driving the bookmobile and seeing the children's faces light up as they see you driving up.


Hours:
40 hours a week. Generally Monday - Friday 8:00 - 5:00, may work evenings and weekends and holidays for programming events and outreach as needed.


Salary:
Starts at $17.00 with MLS degree, more depending on experience

Starts at $15.57 without MLS degree, more depending on experience

As a youth Librarian you'll:


Provide excellent customer service demonstrating a professional, courteous, and respectful attitude towards all external and internal customers.

  *   Travel to different stops in the community, to schools and agencies to present everything the bookmobile has to offer.
  *   Drive/ride a 30' bookmobile in a safe and effective manner following traffic laws and practices; identify routes, secure, and assist customers on and off the bookmobile.
  *   Work with others to maintain the material collection to meet the needs of the community.
  *   Have responsibilities common in a brick and mortar building such as answering questions, giving reading recommendations, checking items in and out, issuing library cards and giving computer assistance.
  *   Create and present educational, cultural, or library-oriented programs that are lively, entertaining, and engage the participant.
  *   Assist with bookmobile maintenance, such as fuel, fluids, filters, washing, and removal of snow and ice
  *   Resolve customer issues in an effective, pleasant, and timely manner.
  *   Branch responsibilities when management is unavailable such as crisis management, set alarm, and general go-to person, as applicable.
  *   Explain library policies and procedures. Other duties as requested or assigned.


To be successful you:

  *   Must have a bachelor's college degree. Masters degree in library science from an ALA accredited institution, or in the process of obtaining a MLS, is highly desired
  *   Must have a valid drivers' license, be insurable and eligible for the Library's insurance coverage.
  *   Must be able to drive, ride, and work in a bookmobile as well as operate all controls of the vehicle
  *   Must have excellent customer service experience that includes the desire and ability to serve the public with friendliness, tact, and diplomacy.
  *   Excellent problem solving, computer, and communication skills are needed.
Need the ability to maintain composure when responding to a variety of library problems and unpredictable circumstances.
  *   Need excellent knowledge of all literature, particularly youth literature.
  *   Must be able to problem solve, be organized, efficient, creative and demonstrate leadership skills.
  *   Need presentation and training skills, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  *   Must be able to work in areas that may contain dust or other possible allergens.
  *   Must be able to regularly move up to 30 pounds of library materials up and down vehicle steps, as well as move loaded book crates that could weigh up to 50 pounds when full, and move loaded book carts that could weigh up to 200 pounds when full, on and off bookmobile vehicles and into the inside of the library building.
