Cross-posted. Please excuse duplication.

As you're transitioning to fall programming, keep in mind that Choose to Read Ohio<https://library.ohio.gov/ctro/> (CTRO) offers free readers' toolkits with activities and discussion questions for every book on the Choose to Read Ohio booklists (which is 135 books so far!). They are a great resource for book-based programming and book discussion groups. You can also print out copies of the toolkits to slip into your library copies of CTRO books. When your patrons check out a book, they will also get an author bio, discussion questions and extension projects, and links for exploring themes and topics of the book.

The 2021 & 2022 CTRO booklist features The Oldest Student by Rita Lorraine Hubbard and Oge Mora, Other Words for Home by Jasmine Warga, Opposite of Always by Justin A. Reynolds, Go Ahead in the Rain by Hanif Abdurraqib, They Called Us Enemy by George Takei (whose three co-creators all have Ohio connections!), and fifteen other great books for children, teens, and adults, all by Ohio authors or illustrators. Also check out previous CTRO booklists for dozens of additional books to enjoy and share. Here's a list of all 135 books chosen for the CTRO list to date<https://library.ohio.gov/services-for-libraries/library-programs-development/ctro/list-choose-read-ohio-books-2009-present/>.

The CTRO book widget provides libraries a customizable platform to showcase books by Ohio authors and illustrators on your website. See it in action at https://library.ohio.gov/ctro and download it here: https://github.com/StateLibraryofOhio/ctro-book-widget.

Are you interested in helping to select the next CTRO booklist? Email me<mailto:jdwyer at library.ohio.gov?subject=CTRO%20elector%20interest> to volunteer to be a CTRO elector. Electors choose which age/readership group they want to vote in, and receive a list of 10-15 titles in late fall, with about 8 weeks to gather and review them (copies are not provided, but we check library consortium holdings before adding books to the shortlist) and vote their preferences for the CTRO list. You can enjoy your winter break reading and contribute to a statewide initiative at the same time!

CTRO spotlights Ohio authors and illustrators and promotes reading across Ohio. Every two years, a booklist of 20 representative titles for all ages is selected, with the input of dozens of Ohio librarians, educators, and others invested in readers and reading. CTRO is a collaboration among the State Library of Ohio, the Ohioana Library, and the Ohio Center for the Book, and is guided by an Advisory Council<https://library.ohio.gov/services-for-libraries/library-programs-development/ctro/choose-to-read-ohio-credits/> of librarians, educators, and other advocates for reading and readers.

Sincerely,
Janet
