Hi library friends,

The North Canton Public Library is so honored to host Maggie Smith<https://maggiesmithpoet.com/> (the poet, not the actress, ha!) at our library on Monday, April 25 at 6:00PM. Even if you haven't heard of Maggie Smith specifically, you may be familiar with some of her work. In 2016, her poem "Good Bones<https://www.tupelopress.org/product/good-bones-broadside/>" went viral internationally, receiving coverage in the Washington Post<https://www.washingtonpost.com/entertainment/books/maggie-smith-and-the-poem-that-captured-the-mood-of-a-tumultuous-year/2016/12/22/a652b43c-c3a6-11e6-9578-0054287507db_story.html?utm_term=.b43af6e27fb6>, the Guardian<https://www.theguardian.com/books/2016/jun/17/poem-about-struggle-to-love-this-world-as-it-is-viral-maggie-smith-good-bones>, the Telegraph<http://www.telegraph.co.uk/books/what-to-read/jo-cox-and-philip-larkins-the-mower-why-internet-mourners-turn-t/>, Slate<http://www.slate.com/blogs/browbeat/2016/06/17/_good_bones_poet_maggie_smith_on_watching_her_poem_go_viral_after_the_orlando.html>, Huffington Post Italia<http://www.huffingtonpost.it/2016/06/18/maggie-smith-good-bones_n_10542662.html>, and elsewhere. To date it has been translated into nearly a dozen languages; interpreted by a dance troupe in Chennai, India; and set to music by multiple composers. PRI (Public Radio International) called it “the official poem of 2016<http://www.pri.org/stories/2016-12-31/official-poem-2016>.” In 2017, the poem was featured on an episode of the CBS primetime drama Madam Secretary<http://www.imdb.com/title/tt6507152/?ref_=ttfc_fc_tt>, also called “Good Bones,” and was read by Meryl Streep at Lincoln Center<http://in%202017%20the%20poem%20was%20featured%20on%20an%20episode%20of%20the%20cbs%20primetime%20drama%20madam%20secretary%2C%20also%20called/>.

She'll be performing a reading of her poems and will be taking questions from the audience. Copies of her latest book, Goldenrod<https://www.amazon.com/Goldenrod-Poems-Maggie-Smith/dp/1982185066>, will be available for sale and signing at the conclusion of the program.

If you or someone you know would like to register for the program, you may do so here:
