Job Opportunity -Teen Librarian
Tiffin-Seneca Public Library is looking for an enthusiastic library professional with a passion for serving teens and a love of YA books to help us provide high-quality, high-impact collections, services, and programs.
TSPL is a mid-sized public library dedicated to providing access to diverse materials, technologies, spaces, and experiences among our legal service population of approximately 31,000. We seek to enrich lives and encourage community.
Located in the heart of northwest Ohio, the City of Tiffin is home to 18,000 people and boasts a thriving downtown, a strong economy, and two private universities.
​This full-time opportunity requires a commitment of 39.5 hours weekly, scheduled in accordance with the library's operational needs. A MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited program is required.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
Title:  Teen Librarian
Hours:   Full-Time (39.5 Hours Weekly)
FLSA Status:   Non-Exempt
Department:  Youth Services
Reports To:   Youth Services Manager
Full Range:  $31,652 - $47,468
JOB SUMMARY
Provide library service and programming for young adults and those who work with young adults.  Constant contact and collaboration with teens (typically, ages 12-18), including those with diverse backgrounds and abilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  *   Conducts regular community needs assessments to identify teen needs, in order to created tailored services and programs to address identified needs.
  *   Maintains a welcoming and inclusive environment in the Teen Area and the library as a whole.
  *   Provides prompt, courteous and direct assistance to all patrons with basic information regarding use of library materials, equipment, and services.
  *   Assists with development and maintenance of the teen collection, and develop Readers’ Advisory materials.
  *   Plans, implements and evaluates library programs and services which fulfill the diverse educational, recreational and personal needs of local teens.
  *   Coordinates and oversees the teen summer reading program. Collaborates with other staff members to create all ages programming and events.
  *   Develops and maintains cooperative working relationships with community organizations and area schools. Conducts regular visits to area school.
  *   Creates and maintains displays targeted at teens.
  *   Actively promotes library services, programs, and materials to the public and other staff members.
  *   Attends and participates in professional library conferences, seminars, and network committees; reads professional literature; attends and participates in staff meetings.
  *   Maintains regular and punctual attendance, working on site, in accordance with the library’s attendance policy.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  *   Knowledge of teens’ developmental, recreational and educational needs.
  *   Knowledge of current trends in library services for teens.
  *   Knowledge of standard library procedures, current information technology, Internet and database search capabilities.
  *   Knowledge of best practices in teen services, including guidelines and standards published by ALA, YALSA and other recognized organizations.
  *   Knowledge of best practices in community assessment and engagement.
  *   Knowledge of effective practices in evaluation and outcomes measurement.
  *   Ability to communicate effectively with others, orally and in writing, including through email.
  *   Ability to identify and translate teens’ needs and interests into effective library services and programs.
  *   Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, patrons, user groups, community organizations, volunteer groups and to serve the public courteously.
  *   Able to recognize and set priorities, and to use initiative and independent judgment in a variety of situations.
  *   Able to learn and stay current with emerging technology.
  *   Must be able to speak distinctly to large groups.
  *   Must be available to work evenings and weekends.

ORGANIZATION-WIDE WORK REQUIREMENTS
Each library staff member is expected to:

  *   Interact professionally with other staff members, patrons, and vendors.
  *   Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision.
  *   Work effectively as a team contributor on all assignments.
  *   Communicate and coordinate work efforts with others.
  *   Uphold library performance standards, work rules, and policies.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  *   None
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This job takes place in a busy public area and requires frequent speaking and interaction with the public. Must be able to concentrate on fine detail with constant interruption and remember assignments given over long periods of time. Must be able to read from a computer screen for significant amounts of time. Noise level can vary greatly depending upon number of patrons present and library activities.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  *   Must possess physical mobility involving bending, lifting, reading, hearing.
  *   Must be able to lift and carry bags of books or boxes weighing up to 40 pounds.
EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
Hours may vary from week to week. Candidates must be available to work evenings and weekends.
TRAVEL
Frequent local travel and occasional regional or statewide travel for trainings, meetings, and events.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  *   One or more years of experience in a public library setting
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  *   Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program.
  *   Experience working with teens.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  *   Acceptable Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation background check.
  *   Must be able to drive a car and hold a valid driver’s license.
