NEO-RLS News-January 3, 2022
What Our Members Are Saying
" This is the exact training I was looking for to further my growth in understanding cataloging. Many cataloging sessions cover subject headings, genre and series topics in depth, but neglect the copy cataloging verification info. For someone from a non-catalog rich background, I found the LC explanations and OCLC examples invaluable. The explanation of descriptive cataloging was the best I've heard yet. "

A Note from the Continuing Education Coordinator
[https://neo-rls.org/photos/81676_11022021091152.jpg]Early in my career I learned that networking with other library staff was not only essential to my professional development but also an invaluable resource when navigating tough decisions, seeking inspiration, and looking for feedback. NEO-RLS provides an opportunity to connect with your colleagues across the region through Discord , which allows for custom messaging channels, video calling, and media sharing. Currently, each Special Interest Network Group <https://mms.neo-rls.org/ct.php?lid=55600679&nr=5977302699> has a dedicated Discord server where they use various channels to engage in conversation with their peers about specific topics of interest such as programming ideas, current challenges, or general discussion. We are also looking to expand servers to include the NEO-RLS Academies. Our hope is that this platform will provide NEO-RLS members with an easy and accessible way to stay connected while also keeping their e-mail inbox free from clutter. Over the next few months, we will be working to refine the current servers and helping current users to utilize their servers more effectively and efficiently.
If you have any questions about Discord or if you would like to be added to an existing server, please contact me at ragan.snead at neo-rls.org<https://mms.neo-rls.org/ct.php?lid=55601901&nr=5977302699>. Together we are maximizing library potential. Thank you and have a great week!

Start Your Own JEDI Council
JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) Councils are an emerging best practice in workplaces. They are comprised of a group of employees with a shared goal: to drive the development and implementation of JEDI into all aspects of work. These are not event-planning committees; they support a core organizational function of ensuring policies, procedures, and practices of the library are equitable and inclusive to create a workplace where everyone feels connected, respected, and valued.

Learning Objectives:

  * You will review fundamentals of JEDI and identity
  * You will earn about how to develop your own JEDI Councils
  * You will learn what a JEDI Council is, what it does, and how it functions, as well as considering their organizational "why"
  * You will increase your knowledge about how to structure and begin a JEDI Council
  * You will increase your skills to manage group dynamics and change resistance
