The Barberton Public Library, a community oriented independent library, is seeking a dynamic, creative, enthusiastic, and tech savvy individual who will provide strong public library services to middle school-age children, educators, and families in our community.  The Children’s Librarian position is full-time, scheduled at 35 hours per week. The Librarian works a flexible schedule, which will include nights and weekends on a rotating basis.

Duties and Responsibilities: Working closely with the Children’s Services Manager, the Librarian will maintain and promote a collection and programs that support children in grades 4 - 8.  The successful applicant will have an excellent knowledge of middle grade literature, strong readers’ advisory skills, and experience working with middle school-age children.  The Librarian will provide reference services to children and customers of all ages, assist in collection development, develop, and present programs geared towards children in grades 4 -8, assist in building and maintaining a youth Makerspace, and perform clerical duties as needed.

Qualifications: A Master of Library and Information Science degree from an ALA accredited School of Library and Information Science is required. Applicants with 6 credit hours or less towards completion of the M.L.I.S will be considered.  A good working knowledge of classic and contemporary children’s literature and reference materials is required.  Experience in a public library setting working with children, children’s resources, and children’s programming is preferred.

Salary range: $18.11-$25.41 per hour / 35 hours per week.  Starting compensation depends on qualifications and experience. The Barberton Public Library offers excellent benefits including vacation and sick leave, 12 paid holidays, Ohio Public Employees Retirement, health and life insurance, and OLC membership.  We support continuing education for all staff members.
