Date TBD, April-May 2023 - Warren Trumbull County PL (northeast Ohio)

Register now for the October 14 workshop in Grove City<https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/EL101_SPL1022>, to be facilitated by ORTR trainers Erin Ingram and Kerry Rhoad from the Cincinnati & Hamilton County Public Library, or watch this listserv for announcements as registration opens for the following workshops. Registration will open later in September for the November 15 workshop and in January for the spring workshops. Additional Early Literacy 101 workshops, both in person and online, are also in the works.

Early Literacy 101 is a FREE one-day workshop for library workers. This workshop will benefit:

  * Library workers who are new to children's services
  * Department managers or library directors with new children's services staff
  *   Outreach staff
  * Newly degreed youth services librarians
  * Any library worker who wants a refresher course in early literacy
  * Any library worker who plans and presents storytimes

Participants will learn how brain development impacts how young children learn, and will explore effective, research-based early literacy resources and activities. The workshop covers the Six Early Literacy Skills presented in the PLA/ALSC Every Child Ready to Read(r) 1st edition, and the Five Early Literacy Practices presented in the 2nd edition, along with other early literacy concepts and storytime tips. It is also an excellent complement to the Reimagining School Readiness training<https://www.ohreadytoread.org/reimagining-school-readiness>, and Ohio Ready to Read recommends library workers take advantage of both.

Janet
