A Note From the Board President
[https://neo-rls.org/photos/53175_07172019110551.jpg]After welcoming our new trustees and Executive Director in July, the Board of Trustees and members of the DEIA Strategic Committee attended a training facilitated by Kent State University's Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. The four-hour training was an amalgam of beginner and intermediate training, covering bias, microaggressions, and intersectionality. This training marked the beginning of a DEIA plan we have been implementing since early 2021. NEO-RLS has since hosted specific DEIA training opportunities, facilitated by KSU, available to the entire membership.

While there have been some changes with the DEIA Committee participants, and there many changes on the horizon in the organization overall, NEO-RLS will continue to search for and provide quality DEIA training and learning opportunities. As we head into 2023, NEO-RLS staff and the Board of Trustees remain steadfast in our commitment to real and lasting change for our library community and beyond.

ILEAD Ohio <https://mms.neo-rls.org/ct.php?lid=69643903&nr=6532832453> helps develop present and future Ohio library leaders, no matter their position or title, through a team-based, problem-solving project. The goal of ILEAD Ohio is to support participants in addressing professional and/or community needs through the exploration and application of innovative communication, technology, and collaborative tools and skills.

The Reimagining School Readiness workshop provides an overview of both practical research about how to support school readiness, and a toolkit with resources created for library staff to help families prepare children from birth to 8 years for success in school and in life.
The Dollar General Summer Reading Grant and Family Literacy Grant programs are currently open for applications.

The Dollar General Literacy Foundation provides grant funding to support literacy and education initiatives serving individuals of all ages. The Foundation funds nonprofit organizations, schools and libraries within a 15-mile radius of Dollar General stores.

Grant Opportunity
ALA invites library workers to apply for the third annual Peggy Barber Tribute Grant, a programming grant named after the transformative ALA leader responsible for the creation of National Library Week and the Celebrity READ series.

The Peggy Barber Tribute Grant is an annual grant that recognizes, promotes, and supports meaningful programs in libraries that have limited and/or no access to budgetary support for programming. This grant aims to help ease budget challenges by annually awarding three libraries $2,500 to support a proposed program, program series, or programming effort.

Applications for the award will be accepted from December 1, 2022, to February 1, 2023.
