Call for Volunteers: Join the NEO-RLS Award Winner Selection Group!

Earlier this year, the NEO-RLS awards process was updated and now includes the formation of an Award Winner Selection Group. We are seeking up to three NEO-RLS member representatives to serve on the group. Please note that members who nominated someone this year are not eligible to participate.

Nominations for the Rising Star, Shooting Star, and Superstar Awards will be sent out for review on Monday, September 16th. The selection group will then convene virtually on Monday, September 30th at 2:00 PM to review submissions and determine this year’s award recipients. This is a great opportunity to lend your voice and help recognize the outstanding contributions within our library community!

Hubbard Public Library's Sensory Garden

Hubbard Public Library's Sensory Garden is featured in the August 2024 issue of PRB+ Magazine, "Radical Inclusivity" and focuses on special needs and innovative, creative design.  The article is entitled "Awakening the Senses:  A closer look at Hubbard Public Library's Sensory Garden" and features the beautiful Sensory Garden and its elements.  These elements include a giant wind chimes, a waterfall, a poetry post, diverse plants and herbs, a unique "Pebble Harp" which generates calming, soothing sounds as pebbles are dropped into it, and an awning to allow for outdoor programs even on summer's hottest days!   This Sensory Garden is one of the first outdoor resources in the Library's "Beyond Library Walls—Bringing the Library Outdoors."  This outdoor initiative serves all members of the community and provides equitable access to nature, health and well-being, and literacy/learning.  The Sensory Garden opened officially in 2014.  And, now open for an impressive ten years, this Sensory Garden is currently undergoing plans for 're-imagination' and 're-creation.'  New features will include an interactive water feature and a pollinator garden. Free Story Time Program for April 2025

Looking for a great program for April 2025? Does your community want to learn more about how cool (and important) trees are?

Book a Tree Tale Teller! This free preschool or family Story Time program is for Cuyahoga, Lake, and Geauga counties and is presented in celebration of Arbor Day by Holden Forests & Gardens, better known as Cleveland Botanical Garden and Holden Arboretum. All volunteer Tree Tale Tellers go through a training based on ECRR and are provided with high-quality books, felt board, and activities created by our Librarian.
