MidPointe Library - Library Associate – Part Time – Monroe, Ohio
At our Monroe Library, we have a 24 hour per week, part-time opening for a customer-oriented individual who likes to help people in a family friendly environment. To thrive in this environment, you’ll need customer service experience, but you don't need library experience, we can teach you!
At the MidPointe Library System, our mission is to enrich our community through access & experiences. We do that by connecting a curious community to our library services & strive to provide a positive learning experience.
As a library associate, you’ll provide our patrons with excellent customer service in-person & on the phone by answering questions; giving reading recommendations; providing computer and printer assistance; creating library cards; processing passport applications; assisting patrons with check in and check out; and giving instruction on how to use the online card catalog, the Internet, print station, e-reader tablets, library research databases and other digital resources. You'll also process holds and reserves; look up materials; sort; shelve; shelf read; pull holds; use lists to pull materials; and assist with branch activities. As a member of the public services team, you'll work independently and work with co-workers.
To Be Successful, you will need to:
* Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
* Must be a US citizen for passport duties.
* Must be friendly, approachable & provide a positive library experience to patrons.
* Must have excellent customer service, a strong service ethic, excellent problem-solving skills, adapt rapidly to change & thrive in a busy environment.
* Must have computer experience that includes MS Office and the Internet.
* Be able to adapt to filling in at each service desk, and on call center when needed.
* Be able to independently (and with others), quickly & favorably respond to new or changed responsibilities or situations and be able to prioritize & handle confidential information.
* Have a good knowledge of literature that appeals to children, teens and adults.
* Must be able to learn and carry out the responsibilities of the position.
* Must be able to effectively read (including cursive), write, speak and understand English.
* Regular & predictable physical attendance is required.
Hours:
24 hours per week with varying schedules, evening and weekends required. A sample schedule could be:
Week 1: Sun-closed, Mon 8am-5pm. Tues-off,
Wed 10am-7pm, Thurs-off, Fri-off, Sat 8am-5pm.
Week 2: Sun-closed, Mon-off, Tues 8am-5pm, Wed-off, Thurs 10am-7pm, Fri 8am-5pm, Sat-off.
Rate of Pay:
The 2025 pay range is $14.50 – $21.00 per hour; the rate depends on job factors such as experience, job skills, education, and languages spoken.
Benefits:
Part time benefits include state retirement; direct deposit; accrued vacation and sick time; eligibility for dental and vision insurance; paid holiday’s; education assistance; and employee assistance plan.
Physical Requirements:
-Must have the ability to move book crates that could weigh up to 75 pounds when full and move book carts that could weigh up to 200+ pounds when full.
-Must be able to work in areas that may contain cleaning odors, dust or other possible allergens.
-Must have manual dexterity sufficient to operate library equipment.
