A Note From the
Executive Director

I recently had the pleasure of facilitating an all-staff session at Ritter Public Library, as part of their strategic planning process. During this session, staff have the opportunity to brainstorm around six different topics including relevancy, partnerships, diversity & inclusion, wellness, failure & innovation, and budgets. No matter how many times I facilitate this session, I am always inspired by the innovative ideas and creative solutions that library staff come up with.

The all-staff session is just one part of the NEO-RLS strategic planning service. We are dedicated to providing a comprehensive and enjoyable process that will empower your library to achieve its goals. Our services are customizable to meet the unique needs and priorities of your library. If your library is ready for a new strategic plan or has an existing plan that needs updating, we are ready to work with you!

If you're interested in learning more about our strategic planning services, please don't hesitate to reach out to me at ragan.snead at neo-rls.org<mailto:ragan.snead at neo-rls.org>.

Have a great day!

State Library and OAC seek libraries for arts programming; reply by March 13th

Ohio’s libraries have long been the epicenter of social engagement for older adults. The State Library of Ohio is proud to be a supporting partner of the Ohio Arts Council’s (OAC) Creative Aging program, “Creative Aging Ohio: Building Bridges to Sustained Communities.” Through this program, OAC will help meet those social engagement needs of older adults (defined as ages 55 and “better”) via the power of creative arts programming. While the OAC has already identified the Creative Aging teaching artists that will coordinate these programmatic activities, we are in need of public library partners to serve as host sites for some/all of the arts-related activities.

The State Library would like to help OAC identify between 15-20 public libraries throughout Ohio to serve as host sites at no cost to your library. If you are interested, please fill out this brief survey<https://mms.neo-rls.org/ct.php?lid=262662469&mm=90966212471>. (Direct link to survey: https://app.smartsheet.com/b/form/ccedd93a9c8746228dc04c1743552216<https://mms.neo-rls.org/ct.php?lid=262662469&mm=90966212471>) If you are not interested in participating, the OAC would still appreciate your survey submission to better understand current and future needs and opportunities for libraries in the creative aging space. Please fill out the survey by Wednesday, March 13th. As part of your library’s commitment to the “Creative Aging Ohio: Building Bridges to Sustained Communities” program, your library would be expected to:

  * Designate a staff member to participate in six hours of virtual Creative Aging training on July 23,25, and 26 from 10 a.m. - Noon.
  * Commit to hosting a trained teaching artist to conduct 12 hours of programming between August and December 2024.
  * Assist in marketing and recruitment of residency participants.
  * Submit a short final report detailing residency work.
  * Send a representative to the final Creative Aging convening in Columbus on June 5, 2025.

Participating libraries will receive a grant award from the OAC to cover:

  * Organization stipends of $50/hour plus mileage for staff to attend virtual training and final convening.
  *   All artist fees.
  *   Limited supply budget.
  * The OAC is also compensating artists for training participation and mileage to and from host sites.

 As you consider your library’s participation, if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me (wknapp at library.ohio.gov<mailto:estruble at library.ohio.gov>) and/or to our colleagues at OAC, specifically Chiquita Mullins Lee (Chiquita.MullinsLee at oac.ohio.gov<mailto:Chiquita.MullinsLee at oac.ohio.gov>) or Jarred Small (Jarred.Small at oac.ohio.gov<mailto:Jarred.Small at oac.ohio.gov>).
