A Note From the
Continuing Education Coordinator

I am excited to introduce some changes to our collection of circulating materials. To better fit the expanding scope, we have rebranded the collection as Circulating Technology and Wellness Kits. This more accurately describes our recent additions to the Health Literacy Kits as well as our newest offering, the Memory Care Kit: Home Life & Hobbies.

The Memory Care Kit: Home Life & Hobbies (pictured below) comes with materials and guidelines for six unique activities including birdwatching, stargazing, sock matching, and more. The kit was assembled based upon recommendations from The Dementia Inclusive Public Library Guide<https://mms.neo-rls.org/ct.php?lid=254069365&mm=88864302817> from the Ohio Council For Cognitive Health. Memory Care Kits are designed to incorporate activities that utilize the preserved strengths of people living with dementia. The purpose of these activities is to provide meaningful, enjoyable ways for individuals to engage in life while completing familiar tasks that maintain one’s abilities.

Whether your library is considering starting a memory care kit collection, exploring in-house memory care activities, or utilizing the kit for programming, we hope this kit will help you on your journey to becoming a dementia inclusive library. To reserve a kit, email me at jeff.laser at neo-rls.org<mailto:jeff.laser at neo-rls.org> or visit our Circulating Technology and Wellness Kits webpage<https://mms.neo-rls.org/ct.php?lid=254070587&mm=88864302817>.

For further education on this subject, I encourage you to register for our two upcoming webinars led by Barb White: Living Well With Dementia: The Dementia Inclusive Public Library Guide<https://mms.neo-rls.org/ct.php?lid=254071809&mm=88864302817> and Dementia Friends for Libraries Training<https://mms.neo-rls.org/ct.php?lid=254073031&mm=88864302817>. Barb is a Dementia Friends Champion, founding member of Dementia Friendly Summit County (OH), and Education and Programming Committee Chair with Dementia Action Alliance.

Have a great day!

Jeff

Library Visits

Calling all libraries! As the Executive Director of NEO-RLS, I'm excited to connect with your library. I'm eager to learn about your programming, explore your initiatives, tour your spaces, and discuss how NEO-RLS can offer support. Please reach out to me at ragan.snead at neo-rls.org<mailto:ragan.snead%40neo-rls.org> to coordinate a visit.

Performers List

Janet Ingraham Dwyer has received several requests for a performer directory for Ohio libraries, so let’s try crowdsourcing one! Any Ohio library worker who wishes to recommend a performer or other program presenter can complete this form:

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/OH_performer_recommendation<https://mms.neo-rls.org/ct.php?lid=254098693&mm=88864302817>

You may complete the form multiple times if you have multiple performers/presenters to recommend. The form will remain open indefinitely, so you can also add recommendations in the future.

Once we get a few dozen submissions, the form responses will be available as a spreadsheet that you can view or download and sort by type of program, audience age range, or any other field. This spreadsheet will include exclusively individuals and groups recommended by Ohio public librarians and library workers. It will be updated regularly as more recommendations are submitted.

Please submit only performers/presenters whose work you are directly familiar with and who you would recommend to other Ohio libraries, and who are willing/able to travel to other Ohio libraries to do their programs.

The form asks for this info (asterisk indicates answer is required):

Your contact information (will not be included in directory unless you choose to include a signed recommendation)

*Performer / Programmer name

Performer / Programmer contact person (if different from above)

Performer / Programmer website

Performer / Programmer additional contact info

Performer / Programmer location (city, state)

*Type of program – e.g. music, science, etc. – there is a list of choices and an “Other” option

*Program description

*Audience age range

*Program fee / price range

If known: Is fee negotiable? Is a multiple booking discount available? Is mileage / travel an additional charge?

Additional comments

There is also an opportunity to provide a free-text signed recommendation if you choose to.

Janet will post an update to the same listservs when the spreadsheet is published, and it will be linked from the Ohio Summer Library Program page<https://mms.neo-rls.org/ct.php?lid=254099915&mm=88864302817> on the State Library website.
