Dear Ohio Technical Services Community:

NOTSL is an organization that is completely dedicated to providing continuing educational opportunities for Technical Services Librarians and staff. We do this by offering 2 programs a year and then using any profits to provide scholarships to Technical Services librarians, staff and students so that they can earn their degree or attend conferences and training.

A week from Friday at the upcoming NOTSL meeting, members will be asked to vote for a new slate of officers that will take place immediately. And not enough of you have been willing (so far) to run for office.

Many of us are overextended as our jobs have expanded to replace lost colleagues. And our administrators sometimes don't want us to focus on professional opportunities outside of our jobs.

But NOTSL depends upon the volunteerism of its members to survive and to thrive – which only benefits us all. The board no longer meets in person (all meetings are virtual), and one of our programs is virtual, so there is now very little travel involved.  Most business is handled through email and phone. Some of the jobs have significantly less responsibility than others. AND the NOTSL Board has always been one of my favorite teams to work with because everyone is so cooperatively focused on how to benefit the organization and its membership. Participation on the NOTSL Board also helps you build your professional network.

This year the Northern Ohio Technical Services Librarians (NOTSL) will hold elections at the Spring Meeting on Friday, May 17, 2024, at Cuyahoga Community College (aka Tri-C) Corporate College Conference Center East.



NOTSL exists to provide opportunities for librarians to exchange information, ideas, and experiences in Technical Services. NOTSL sponsors programs in response to membership concerns and interests, and sponsors continuing education scholarships for Technical Services personnel.



We seek a Vice-Chair/Chair-Elect, a Secretary, a Scholarship Committee member, and an Executive Committee member to serve on the NOTSL Executive Board. This is a great opportunity for you to represent your organization and contribute to the profession by serving as an officer.



Offices open for consideration are:



•       The Vice-Chair/Chair-Elect runs for a 3-year term that includes one year as Vice Chair, one year as Chair, and one year as Past Chair. The person in this position assists the Chair in planning and coordinating programs and works with the Executive Committee to identify prospective candidates for election. The current Chair manages the organization and delegates responsibilities to other board members. The Past Chair serves as Chair of the Scholarship Committee.

•       The Secretary serves a 2-year term. This office records minutes at all meetings of the organization and of the Executive Committee. They maintain and preserve all pertinent records of NOTSL.

•       The Scholarship Committee serves a 2-year term and will promote and advertise NOTSL Scholarships as appropriate; evaluate scholarship applications; and investigate additional scholarship funding sources.

•       A 2-year Executive Committee member position is open. This person will assist the Chair in committee appointments; plan programs; and handle the affairs of the organization between semi-annual meetings.



Board membership requires attendance at both semi-annual educational meetings. Most of the Board’s work is conducted over Zoom meetings or by email. Candidates do not have to come from the Northern Ohio area.
