A Note From the
Executive Director

As the Director of NEO-RLS, one of my favorite responsibilities is visiting libraries across our region and beyond. These visits allow me to see our incredible library spaces and services in action and provide an opportunity for meaningful one-on-one conversations with our members. The NEO-RLS team and I greatly value the feedback and suggestions received during these visits, as they are crucial for enhancing our programs and services. Many of our continuing education topics, consulting services, and other offerings have been inspired by conversations with library directors and staff about their challenges, goals, and training needs.

I would love to visit your library! Whether it’s for a staff day, a monthly meeting, or an informal discussion on the floor, I can customize the visit to suit your library's needs. If you’re interested in scheduling a visit, please reach out to me at ragan.snead at neo-rls.org<mailto:ragan.snead at neo-rls.org>.

Have a great day!

Ragan

Summer Library Program Evaluation Preview

The State Library asks all Ohio public libraries to report on their SLP at program’s end. Your participation in the 2024 Ohio Summer Library Program Evaluation<https://mms.neo-rls.org/ct.php?lid=286996155&mm=97031881977> will help the State Library, Regional Library Systems, suppliers of statewide incentives, and the Collaborative Summer Library Program to provide the most useful resources and support to Ohio’s libraries.

Your participation also allows us to tell stakeholders and decision-makers how SLPs positively impact children, teens, families, adults, and communities.

Data from the survey is also shared with the Ohio Library Council for its advocacy work.

The survey is now open at www.surveymonkey.com/r/slpeval2024<https://mms.neo-rls.org/ct.php?lid=286997377&mm=97031881977>

The survey will be open until September 9. The link will also be added to the Ohio SLP page of the State Library website (library.ohio.gov/ohio-summer-library-program<https://mms.neo-rls.org/ct.php?lid=286998599&mm=97031881977>).

I’ll send a reminder in late July, and another in late August for those who have not returned this survey by then. Please help us achieve 100% participation for 2024!

Here is a summary of the questions on the survey. Review these questions and track your SLP activities accordingly if possible. There are 4 fewer questions this year. The survey can take as little as ~10 minutes if you have your numbers ready at hand, longer if you have narrative feedback to share. Many respondents spend 20-30 minutes on the survey. Your time is valuable, and your insights and feedback are valuable too.

Library contact information

Did your library offer a summer library program in 2024 for children ages 0-5? Children ages 6-11? Teens? Adults?

How many children/teens/adults participated?

What was the total attendance at your library programs held during SLP (by age group)?

If you distributed the Ohio State Parks certificate, Ohio State Fair coupon, and/or Ohio Renaissance Festival coupon, how many of each did you distribute?

Please rate various statewide/CSLP services and products, including the CSLP manual, workshops, statewide incentives, etc.

Share a success / something that went particularly well this summer.

(Optional) Share something that was challenging this summer.

(Optional) Who did you partner with and how?

We will also again collect anecdotes and photos from libraries, to share statewide to demonstrate the positive impact of public library summer programming. Photos and stories may be used in the annual Ohio SLP Evaluation Report, and in presentations, print, and/or online publications that communicate the importance of libraries for summer enrichment and literacy support. We encourage you to share your photos and stories with the State Library, so we can show off your summer activities and their benefits.
