A Note from the

Continuing Education Coordinator

We are thrilled that we have been able to provide Mental Health First Aid over the last few years.  We have been able to do this for free due to a grant that our provider held.

Mental Health First Aid is a training course designed to give members of the public key skills to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. Just as CPR training helps a layperson without medical training assist an individual following a heart attack, Mental Health First Aid training helps a layperson assist someone experiencing a mental health crisis.

Learning Objectives:

  *   Recognize the potential risk factors and warning signs for a range of mental health problems, including: depression, anxiety/trauma, psychosis and psychotic disorders, substance use disorders, and self-injury.
  *   Use a 5-step action plan to help an individual in crisis connect with appropriate professional help.
  *   Interpret the prevalence of various mental health disorders in the U.S. and the need for reduced negative attitudes in their communities.
  *   Apply knowledge of the appropriate professional, peer, social, and self-help resources available to help someone.

This funding may not be available starting July of 2025.  At this time, we have our last Mental Health First Aid scheduled for Tuesday, June 10, 2025<https://mms.neo-rls.org/ct.php?lid=396499575&mm=122952689357>.  This is live virtual training.

Save the Date! ODNFest will be returning on September 30, 2025.

ODNFest will be held in person at the State Library of Ohio in Columbus, Ohio. Registration will open in summer 2025. The State Library of Ohio is excited to announce the theme of this year’s ODNFest: Trauma Informed Care and Archiving.

The State Library of Ohio is currently accepting proposals for the 7th Annual ODNFest. Proposals on topics related to digital collections, archiving, and more are encouraged. Orrville Public Library celebrates a century of operations

Since 1925, the Orrville Public Library has been providing books and other media conducive to lifelong learning and supplementing the educational needs of school-age children.

However, according to Director Daphne Silchuk-Ashcraft, at a recent 100-year celebration held in the library, it is much more than a collection of books.

“The library has been a sanctuary for curious minds, a gateway to new worlds and the cornerstone of our community,” Ashcraft said. “Founded in 1925, the Orrville Public Library has witnessed generations of learners, dreamers and storytellers walking through our doors, each leaving their own mark on this legacy.”
