Registration is now open for two in-person Early Literacy 101 workshops<https://ohreadytoread.org/early-literacy-101> presented by Ohio Ready to Read<https://ohreadytoread.org/>.
Early Literacy 101 is a full-day workshop open to all Ohio public library workers and offered at no cost to attendees. Workshops this fall include:
* Monday, September 22 at the Medina County District Library, Medina (northeast Ohio). Registration is open for Medina!<https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/EL101_MCDL_0925>
* Wednesday, October 22 at the Fairfield Lane Library in Fairfield (southwest Ohio). Registration is open for Fairfield!<https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/EL101_FLL_1025>
* Monday, November 3 at the Liberty Branch, Delaware County District Library, Powell (central Ohio)
* Friday, November 14 at the Pickaway County Library, Circleville (central Ohio)
Registration opens in early September for Powell and Circleville. Additional workshops will be announced in the fall.
Early Literacy 101 is for new and seasoned library workers in children's services and outreach. It's great for anyone who plans and presents storytimes, and for anyone who wants to learn how to help children get ready to read. Participants will learn how brain development impacts how young children learn, and will explore effective, research-based early literacy resources and activities.
Past participants have said about Early Literacy 101:
* I now have a vocabulary and strategies to use when it comes to addressing reading comprehension. Presenters were very knowledgeable and were very open to sharing their expertise.
* This was a very informative workshop! You balanced sharing information with some fun activities and plenty of breaks to move around.
* I have a whole new perspective on the importance of story times and intentionally planning them to support our community's literacy growth.
* Sessions like this dissolve some anxiety and fear that I hold around storytime. There is a lot of joy in the work and refocusing on the positive is helpful, especially when surrounded by folks who are joyful about the practice.
The workshop covers the Six Early Literacy Skills presented in the PLA/ALSC Every Child Ready to Read(r) 1st edition, and the Five Early Literacy Practices presented in the 2nd edition, along with other early literacy concepts and storytime tips.
