*The Opportunity*

The *Rockford Public Library* is seeking an accomplished library leader to
serve as their next *Executive Director*. This dynamic leadership position
reports to a Board of Trustees, oversees a staff of 71 [including eight
direct reports], and is responsible for the executive administration of the
Library’s four branch locations and mobile library. In addition to
organizing, directing, and evaluating all Library functions, operations,
and activities, the Executive Director will prioritize patron satisfaction,
community engagement and collaboration, civic outreach, fiscal management,
and staff training and development.

*About the Library and Community*

The Rockford Public Library has a rich history dating back to its founding
in 1872, making it the second library established in the state. It was
created to serve as an educational and cultural resource for the community
and has grown significantly over the years. The library has adapted over
the decades to meet the evolving needs of its community, continuously
expanding and enhancing its facilities and services. The Rockford Public

Rockford, Illinois, known as "The Forest City," is the fifth-largest city
in the state, with a population of approximately 148,000. Located along the
Rock River, it offers a mix of urban and suburban living. The city boasts

*Position Qualifications and Compensation*

-         A Master’s degree in Library and Information Science [MLIS] is
required.

-         Eight or more years of progressively responsible library
managerial experience is required.

-         Experience collaborating and partnering with trustees,
civic/community partners, local businesses, and other key stakeholders is
required.

-         Intermediate to advanced technological literacy, including
integrated library systems, is required.

-         Experience leading projects and teams to enhance facilities,
collections, programs, services, and team members is required.

-         Experience working collaboratively in a union environment and in
collective bargaining is required.

A generous compensation package includes a competitive starting pay range
of $125,000 to $150,000; generous paid time-off allowances; medical,
dental, and vision insurance; retirement plan via the Illinois Municipal
Retirement Fund; and more.
