I have news to share about a documentary that powerfully demonstrates the vital role that literacy plays in escaping from generational poverty. There's an opportunity to screen the film for free to multiple audiences.
Intrigued? Read on. Feel free to share this info with others.
I recently participated in an Affiliate Centers for the Book meeting hosted by the Library of Congress, and one of the speakers was:
Lucy Martin, Director of Impact, Children’s Literacy Project
lucy at childrensliteracyproject.org
She presented information about Sentenced, a documentary film from Children’s Literacy Project, that shows the impact of illiteracy on people’s lives and the impact of illiteracy on generational poverty. The trailer alone is VERY powerful. The film follows real people affected and is not a "talking heads" from the Ivory Tower movie.

Film premiered at the Library of Congress in September; 70 minutes long

screening at childrensliteracyproject.org
Children’s Literacy Project would really like feedback AFTER screening of film!
Screenings can be shared multiple times with different audiences.
Related Note: The Library of Congress Literacy Awards Programs offers ideas for partners to share the film with (winners since 2013): https://www.loc.gov/programs/library-of-congress-literacy-awards/winners-and-honorees/winners/complete-list-of-winners-and-honorees/
It looks like a powerful film, and Ms. Martin said that many/most of those who watch the entire film want to volunteer to help with literacy initiatives in their area. She encouraged having direct contacts with organizations be made available at screenings.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me or reach out directly to Ms. Martin at the Children's Literacy Project.
