Join us for the inaugural Upgrade: Enhancing Library Services with Technology Conference as we explore the intersection of libraries and technology. Hear from leading experts, share best practices, and network with peers. This conference will include topics such as artificial intelligence applications in libraries, best practices for digital collections, and approaches to library instruction and patron engagement.

Dr. Brandy McNeil will kick off the conference as our keynote speaker. As the Deputy Director of Branch Programs and Services at the New York Public Library, Dr. McNeil has transformed community access to technology, knowledge, and opportunity across the 89 branches under her stewardship. Dr. McNeil’s game-changing innovations have forged successful partnerships between libraries and tech giants such as Apple, Spotify, and Google to name a few. Her visionary leadership and dedication to community empowerment have led her to create the highly successful TechConnect program, which has become a digital literacy model for libraries nationwide.

We will close out the conference with Dr. Alex Hanna. Dr. Alex Hanna is Director of Research at the Distributed AI Research Institute (DAIR)<https://www.dair-institute.org/>. A sociologist by training, her work centers on the data used in new computational technologies, and the ways in which these data exacerbate racial, gender, and class inequality. She also works in the area of social movements, focusing on the dynamics of anti-racist campus protest in the US and Canada. She holds a BS in Computer Science and Mathematics and a BA in Sociology from Purdue University, and an MS and a PhD in Sociology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Dr. Hanna will share insights from her new book co-authored with Dr. Emily M. Bender, The AI Con<https://twitter.com/alexhanna/status/1758145788432236575> (Forthcoming Spring 2025, Harper Books).
